What is Electroforming?
One of the techniques I use to create my jewelry is called Electroforming.
Electroforming is a complex but innovative process that allows me to create one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry.
My pieces are hung in an acid bath for a period of 18 to 24 hours - where chemistry and electricity work together to allow Copper to build up around the gemstones, resulting in a unique organic flowing free-style bezel.
Once the electroforming process is finished, my pieces are plated in Palladium - a barrier plate that will prevent the Copper from seeping out - then final plated in a heavy coat of 18k Gold.
All my pieces - no matter which material is selected from the drop-down menu (Sterling Silver, 18k Gold plated or Solid 14k Gold) - are electroformed in the same manner - however the band will be made in your choice of material (Sterling Silver, 14k Gold filled plated in 18k Gold or Solid 14k Gold), and then the whole ring will be plated in your choice of finish.
The creation of my pieces, from beginning to end, is a long and sometimes unpredictable process which can take between 3-5 days.
How to care for your Electroformed jewelry piece
Special care must be taken in order to maintain the finish on your Electroformed jewelry piece and to avoid premature tarnishing or deplating of the bezel:
- Remove your piece before bathing, showering, swimming in a chlorinated pool, spa and even in the ocean
- Remove before handling cleaning household products, applying hand cream or hand sanitizer.
Store in a cool, dry place - your Moondrop Creations jewelry box will work great for storage! Gently clean with the microfiber cloth that is provided with your purchase.
